Explainer: how the Olympus and Hades modes differ in both Gods of War games

Both versions of this slot ask the player to pick a side: Olympus or Hades. The choice shapes how the game feels and how the bonus behaves. This explainer carries the date of 2 February 2026, the day of the most recent official release notice, and it relies only on Pragmatic Play's press releases and game pages.

The original: two modes, two moods

The 2023 release presents Olympus and Hades as two vastly different gaming worlds. Olympus is a bright, ethereal place with soft blue light and flashes of lightning, with Zeus, a winged horse, an eagle, a helmet and a cup among the symbols. Hades is dark and fiery, with the god of the underworld, a three-headed hound, a phoenix and burning versions of the helmet and cup. The company's wording is that volatility is high in Olympus and very high in Hades. The text says the player can switch between them at any time in the base game.

What each mode trades off

According to the official game page, Olympus makes the free spins easier to trigger but pays a lower average win. Hades triggers the bonus more rarely but pays more on average when it does arrive. The press release adds a detail specific to Hades: an expanding wild is guaranteed during free spins. The sources give no numbers for how much more often Olympus triggers the bonus, so none should be assumed.

Gods of War 250: the same choice, restated

The 2026 sequel describes the choice as two volatility levels, again named Olympus and Hades, with the underworld option being the more volatile one. The release says Olympus gives a better chance of starting the bonus, while Hades is more likely to deliver bigger average payouts during the feature. The sequel's press text does not repeat the original's statement about switching at any time, and it does not describe the visual differences, so we do not claim either.

Why it matters for a player

Think of the mode as a choice about the shape of your session rather than a way to improve your chances. A mode that reaches the bonus more often is likely to feel steadier, while one that reaches it less often asks for more patience in exchange for a bigger average result. Neither claim changes the published return, and no approach reliably beats the odds. If you try the demo, spend time in both modes and watch how long quiet stretches last, then set a limit you are comfortable with. Specifications are on the original and 250 pages.
